Leading effectively, influencing positively, taking initiative: these are the signs of good leadership! If this quality proves essential for management positions, it is also very useful for positions in collaboration with it. The proper functioning of a team relies on the autonomy and efficiency of its members, and on the successful initiatives they take.
Therefore, everyone is called upon to demonstrate a certain level of leadership at work. The type of leadership that a person will demonstrate will be underpinned by their own characteristics: their qualities, their weaknesses, their talents, their previous experiences, their values and their attitude towards other members or their position. There are therefore multiple types of leadership, since each individual has their own vision of leadership!
The degree of participation of members varies at work, and remains everyone's responsibility. Team members all have the responsibility to participate in the task, to express their opinions and ideas. Members also have the responsibility not to inhibit the participation of others through bad faith actions or comments. A good attitude at work is naturally linked to a good sense of leadership.
A type of leadership that reduces the participation of others too much undermines enthusiasm and attachment to the project to be developed. Instead, we favor leadership marked by democracy, but also by taking a firm and stimulating position.
The positive leader participates in the task, is part of the action, and maintains a healthy climate in the team. He informs himself as much as possible about the task to be accomplished, while avoiding the pitfall of getting lost in the details. He brings new ideas, listens to those of others, and chooses the best option from those presented. He knows how to optimize the strengths of each member under his wing. It minimizes the impact of negative actions or people. He looks forward, and makes good use of past postmortems. His enthusiasm and energy are infectious, and encourage team members to buy into the project.
